Many of you can probably remember when Volkswagen was known more for making small, cheap, ubiquitous cars with character, known as the Beetle, than they were for a diesel emissions controversy. Last Saturday, I was able to travel back to those good old days at the Florida Bug Jam, a family-friendly judged classic Volkswagen car show with a poker run and some dirt track hooning. I don’t think I spotted a single water-cooled VW while I was there, besides the one that I arrived in. (more…)
Despite how eventful this year has been, some of the photos I’ve taken have not progressed to being sorted and edited until very recently. One of these events, which I attended back in January, was a local car show called the 2015 Series Open Car & Truck Show at “The Shops at Wiregrass,” a small outdoor mall in the tiny nearby town of Wesley Chapel, Florida. Despite this being the first I’d heard of this car show series, there was a pretty nice showing of cars with a good variety, which I’ve collected to share with you after the jump. (more…)
I recently spent a week in Las Vegas. This was my second trip to Las Vegas and in this first article about the trip, I’ve got the photos from my second visit to The Auto Collections. (more…)
I’ve been seeing this old Volkswagen Beetle for a while in a garage on the USF campus, and since university is in sort of a slow part of the year with fewer cars around to get in the way, I decided to go take some quick photos. (more…)
In April, St Petersburg, Florida hosted the Festivals of Speed, a traveling Concours d’Elegance-style show with cars, boats, and aircraft laid out for display on the grass of a swank country club. I didn’t make it to this particular festival, as at the last minute I realized that my dad was coming down for a visit on the same weekend. So, my wife volunteered to go and shoot it for me. Special thanks goes to her for that. I did get to go to the one in Orlando a month later, and I should have the photos from that event posted very soon, but this one had some pretty amazing and special rides that didn’t make it to Orlando, cars that I’ve never even seen in real life. (more…)
I’m wrapping up 2011 with my best shots from last month’s Tampa International Auto Show. I’ve been a bit slowed up lately, because I got a new laptop and have had a lot of trouble getting the thing to color calibrate. Hopefully, this will be solved soon because as of right now, I’m unable to trust it’s color enough to do any photo editing on it. So, I’ve had to do everything on my wife’s Macbook.
Without further ado, here are my favorite shots from the annual car show last month. With the launch of the Toyota GT86 and Subaru BRZ, I wasn’t sure there would be much to see at the show this year, with most of the good stuff having been sent off to LA. Nonetheless, I got my first views of the new 2012 Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 along with the unique new Hyundai Veloster and Fiat 500. Not to mention a few old school hotrods. And I didn’t even get stuck in any Corvettes this year.
There was a nice assortment of old-school Volkswagen Beetles in the parking area at Straight Stance, customized in various forms of lowrider and stance styles. They all had nice, straight bodies, with one even sporting a bit of the Rat Rod look. (more…)
