At this year’s 12 Hours of Sebring, I noticed a very fitting sticker on the side of an E30 BMW 3-series that said “Respect Your Elders.” I didn’t know it at the time, but it was the title of a documentary about the E30 generation of the BMW 3-series coupe and sedan. Recently, I stumbled upon the film online and have it embedded it here. The film features historical perspectives on the cars as well as owner interviews and past and present racing footage. From the perspective of a Mazda Miata fan, the owner interviews make the E30 almost seems like a Pacific Northwest alternative to the Miata, for places that need a little more insulation from the elements. Or, to respect my elders, perhaps it is the Miata that is the warm weather alternative to the E30. Regardless, take a look at this insightful documentary. (more…)
I’m sure you read the recent reader submissions depicting a Slovenian BMW E30 touring on twisty Balkan coastal roads. Now, you can see and hear the white wagon in action, with FinalGear’s video crew having created two short films about that particular, recently restored car.
Often when you attend a major race, such as the 12 Hours of Sebring, there is just as much to see off the track as there is on it. There were rare models cruising the grounds and parking areas of Sebring, devoted entirely to notable makes and models, such as Porsche, Corvette, Audi, and BMW. Each of them had their outstanding examples.

Despite a coating of dust and only having one mirror, which was held on by rubber bands, Roadster made it out to the first show of the year this past Memorial Day weekend at Precision Mazda and Mitsubishi. I finally got to meet some of the local Miata owners in the local club known as Tampa Bay Miatas. Out front we had eight Miatas lined up of all three generations, and surprisingly without planning it, each one was a different color.
