It all started as a quick decision. The Wednesday before the annual 24 hour race in Daytona, I decided to attend the Rolex24. This year’s race would be the racing debut of the new Ford GT supercar, and there was no way I was going to miss the opportunity to capture some photographs of it. Little did I know it would be such an exciting and unusual race.  (more…)

Taking a Look Back: First Show of the Year

Lotus Esprit Turbo
Re-shared from Hooniverse, Text and Photography by Bryce Womeldurf

Despite how eventful this year has been, some of the photos I’ve taken have not progressed to being sorted and edited until very recently. One of these events, which I attended back in January, was a local car show called the 2015 Series Open Car & Truck Show at “The Shops at Wiregrass,” a small outdoor mall in the tiny nearby town of Wesley Chapel, Florida. Despite this being the first I’d heard of this car show series, there was a pretty nice showing of cars with a good variety, which I’ve collected to share with you after the jump. (more…)

The Japanese Lotus

Before I started taking a real interest in the Lotus scene here in Japan, I assumed that owners didn’t really do much with the popular Elise and more extreme Exige models. They both are, of course, rather well-sorted and involving packages from the factory, so aside from a wheel change and a few little carbon additions, what else would you want to do? Oh, how wrong I was (more…)

Festivals of Speed: From Roadsters To Racecars

Festivals of Speed, St Pete
Re-published from Hooniverse, text and photography by Bryce Womeldurf

A few times a year, there is a Concours d’Elegance held in Florida called the Festivals of Speed. These photos are from the event in St Petersburg back in April. I was hoping to show them sooner, but was sidetracked for a while with a broken coolant temperature sensor connector in my Miata. But that’s a story for another time. Here, at last, are the photos from that hot sunny day. (more…)

2013 Honda Grand Prix of St Petersburg

It is always exciting this time of year when the Honda Grand Prix takes over the streets of St Pete, but this year was especially thrilling, because I got to shoot as part of the photographer pool for the Grand Prix. This was closer than I’ve ever gotten to see the track, the drivers, the pit lane, and well… everything!

April 2012 Festivals of Speed in St Petersburg, Florida

In April, St Petersburg, Florida hosted the Festivals of Speed, a traveling Concours d’Elegance-style show with cars, boats, and aircraft laid out for display on the grass of a swank country club. I didn’t make it to this particular festival, as at the last minute I realized that my dad was coming down for a visit on the same weekend. So, my wife volunteered to go and shoot it for me. Special thanks goes to her for that. I did get to go to the one in Orlando a month later, and I should have the photos from that event posted very soon, but this one had some pretty amazing and special rides that didn’t make it to Orlando, cars that I’ve never even seen in real life. 2012: Honda Grand Prix of St Petersburg: IndyCars

In previous years, I’ve typically taken more interest in the World Challenge races at Honda Grand Prix, but this year the excitement and the drama was in the IndyCar races (imagine that!). With a whole new set of cars, which had been developed with the help of the late Dan Wheldon, the races were anything but predictable. (more…)
