Despite being threatened by rain this year, the 21st annual Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance went off without a hitch. Fog and overcast conditions had been recurrent throughout the weekend, so the awards had to be given out earlier than planned. The Amelia is quite a large event with auctions, a Cars & Coffee (we’ll soon have photos from this to show), the Concours d’Elegance, and a host of dinners and seminars. Possibly because the event takes place on an island, classic and exotic cars were around every corner on the green and also on the streets outside the events. From the new McLaren 675LT and 570 to your left to a tiny Audi relic you’ve never seen or heard of to your right, it was all there including more Pegaso sports cars than you’re likely to see anywhere else in the world, not to mention a Phantom Corsair. Past the jump is a fresh collection of photographs from this past Sunday at the Concours. (more…)
It all started as a quick decision. The Wednesday before the annual 24 hour race in Daytona, I decided to attend the Rolex24. This year’s race would be the racing debut of the new Ford GT supercar, and there was no way I was going to miss the opportunity to capture some photographs of it. Little did I know it would be such an exciting and unusual race. (more…)
If you were watching the Goodwood Festival of Speed yesterday, you may have seen the GT350R do a little shimmy on it’s way up the hill. Friend Tyler Brand had a funny idea of adding it to an existing meme, and our friend Dan Sabol put it together, and behold, a new version of the “Shaq vs cat” meme is born. Dan has a gift for these, previously creating the F1-inspired Alonso gif.
So a couple weeks ago, this olelongrooffan took advantage of some free access passes to the Auctions America Show provided by TheKenMan and headed over to the Ft. Lauderdale Convention Center to see what there was to be seen. As I took over 110+ images, I knew I would have to break them down in some sort of organized chaos. Previously I posted about The American Classics , A Truck Thursday Post as well as a Mystery Car sighting, the first one this olelongrooffan has seen in person. Well my fellow Hoons, it is time to check out, if you are so inclined, to check out some of the various Blue Oval offerings I spotted there in the Port of the Everglades. However, a jump will be required. (more…)
This second part from my recent trip to Las Vegas, a visit to Shelby American. This is where Shelby’s main base was and still is, for the manufacture of Shelby go-fast parts and performance vehicles. They also house the Shelby museum, which is the focus of this article. (more…)
In April, St Petersburg, Florida hosted the Festivals of Speed, a traveling Concours d’Elegance-style show with cars, boats, and aircraft laid out for display on the grass of a swank country club. I didn’t make it to this particular festival, as at the last minute I realized that my dad was coming down for a visit on the same weekend. So, my wife volunteered to go and shoot it for me. Special thanks goes to her for that. I did get to go to the one in Orlando a month later, and I should have the photos from that event posted very soon, but this one had some pretty amazing and special rides that didn’t make it to Orlando, cars that I’ve never even seen in real life. I’m wrapping up 2011 with my best shots from last month’s Tampa International Auto Show. I’ve been a bit slowed up lately, because I got a new laptop and have had a lot of trouble getting the thing to color calibrate. Hopefully, this will be solved soon because as of right now, I’m unable to trust it’s color enough to do any photo editing on it. So, I’ve had to do everything on my wife’s Macbook.
Without further ado, here are my favorite shots from the annual car show last month. With the launch of the Toyota GT86 and Subaru BRZ, I wasn’t sure there would be much to see at the show this year, with most of the good stuff having been sent off to LA. Nonetheless, I got my first views of the new 2012 Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 along with the unique new Hyundai Veloster and Fiat 500. Not to mention a few old school hotrods. And I didn’t even get stuck in any Corvettes this year. (more…)
