This morning, we’re waking to the news that Toyota has rung the Scion brand’s death knell, as Toyota is reporting in a press release. But don’t be too worried about seeing the few interesting models, such as the FR-S, die on the vine just yet though. They are also reporting that existing Scion models will be phased into the Toyota lineup. Jim Lentz, CEO of Toyota Motor North America and founding vice president of Scion, put a positive spin on the news when he was quoted as saying “This isn’t a step backward for Scion; it’s a leap forward for Toyota. Scion has allowed us to fast track ideas that would have been challenging to test through the Toyota network.” (more…)

This weekend, the Petersen Automotive Museum—reopens December 1st!—turned Japanese with an all-Nippon cruise-in. It was an event long overdue, and certainly welcomed. They put the word out to Facebook, Twitter, smoke signals, mirrors off the moon, etc. And then, over 500 cars showed up. (more…)
A few years back, I bought a brand new GReddy Ti-C cat back exhaust for my Mitsubishi Lancer. The day it arrived, I was under the car, removing the sway bar, removing rusty bolts, getting rid of the raspy factory exhaust. And then, when I got it all lined up and bolted back together, I went to reinstall the Progress sway bar, and it wouldn’t fit! This was the first time I ever modified a car to such a level (it was a base model and didn’t have a sway bar from the factory) that parts were discovered to be non-compatible with one another. I drove it without the bar for six months or so, loving the exhaust note and the new lack of hesitation in the upper rev range, but hating the loss of cornering ability. I’m finally getting around to posting last month’s Cars & Coffee event from three weeks back. Things got derailed a bit when, the day after attending this and an Evo meet at S&R Performance (post on that to come), I woke up with a bad case of what my wife thinks was heat exhaustion. No more 2 event weekends without carrying some water.
Anyways, on this outing to Cars & Coffee, I arrived 20 minutes later than last time (made a wrong turn and had to go over the bridge twice), and had to park outside the event, more over towards the exotics. As a result, this time I’ve got many more photos of the high end rides for you to see after the jump.
I had heard that Auto Collections was Las Vegas’ premiere place to go if you want to buy, or just look at, vintage steel. I went two weeks ago, while on vacation, and ended up stretching, squatting, and leaning myself through 300+ photo shots. Here are a few of my favorites. (more…)
